Successful Demonstration of Blink-based Communication System in Human Participant Tests
Barron Associates’ patent-pending Blink-based Communication System is designed to provide a virtual call button, allowing Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients and others with severe speech and mobility impairments to reliably signal for help any time they are in bed simply by blinking. Using only remotely mounted sensors, the system is unobtrusive yet able to reliably discriminate between spontaneous blinking and prescribed blink signal that indicates a need for assistance. In initial human subject tests, the system achieved greater than 98% accuracy.
