Autonomous Fall Monitor Patent Notification
Barron Associates recently learned that it will soon be awarded a utility patent on its Autonomous Fall Monitor technology. This technology is being used in conjunction with a collaborating firm to productize a wrist-worn fall monitor for use by seniors and others who can benefit from in-home monitoring. Although several research teams have previously attempted to develop reliable wrist-worn fall detectors, in the end all failed to reliably detect falls. The reliability problem was overcome by Barron Associates through its patented technology, which is also able to detect near- and post-fall events. What makes achievement of the ergonomic wrist-worn fall detector more difficult than a waist-worn fall detector is the need to discriminate fall events from the wide range of dynamic motions executed by the arms during everyday life. Barron Associates has additional patent-pending intellectual propertry related to its Autonomous Fall Monitor technology that further enhances the reliability of its approach.
