Barron Associates’ HeartWing Monitor Outperforms Competitors in Prospective Study
The HeartWing is a portable chest-worn monitor that estimates total energy expenditure and physical activity energy expenditure across a wide variety of activities, including the transitional periods between activities, with accuracy and precision. Barron Associates and Arizona State University recently completed a five-year effort to develop and validate the HeartWing. As part of this effort, several studies were carried out wherein data were collected simultaneously using the HeartWing, three commercially available energy expenditure monitors, and a criterion indirect calorimetry system on adults, children, and seniors. For both structured and free-living activities, the HeartWing outperformed the alternative devices in each demographic group. Barron Associates is preparing multiple journal articles for publication around these results.
